Review:
This is the game that Capcom spelled out "arcade perfect" with. The sprites are directly pulled out from the arcade version, not a frame of animation is lost, and the loading is instantenous as well. Yes, you heard me - you don't have loading times. None. Capcom finally mastered the Saturn hardware and not just creamed in every single pixel from their memory hungry CPS2 coin-up but managed to do so with absolutely zero loading times as well. Of course the price to pay is that the game doesnt run without the 4MB RAM extension.
Vampire Savior, or Darkstalkers 3, is by far the best game in the popular Darkstalker series. It featured many gameplay changes that made the fighting much more fast paced, such as the removal of rounds. When your lifebar is emptied, you are simply knocked down, but the round resumes as your bar fills back up. A second knockdown means you are finished however. It works just like it did in Killer Instinct, and it speeds up the game immensily.
But just what is Darkstalkers anyway? It's one of Capcoms flagship 2d one-on-one fighting titles, made distinctive by the smooth gameplay, huge graphics, and a character roster of various ghouls and monsters. You have every kind of horror imaginable - Zombie, Succubus, Bigfoot, Mummy, Vampire, Demon, Chinese Hopping Ghost, Aztec superrobot, Catgirl, hive-minded giant insects, and Little Red Riding Hood. And many more.
The gameplay itself is highly similar, almost a clone of the Street Fighter Alpha series - but with the colorful and huge graphics, extra smooth gameplay and animation, and most importantly the incredibly imaginitive presentation, do you really need more?
In case you do want more, hold down the L and R shifts while entering the Options to get yourself a hidden options menu, where you can change the game completely to English. Capcom has really outdone themselves with this Saturn port, right?
